Asides movies, cartoon, quiz shows, and many other programs that make it to television for entertainment, reality shows also gives the world a thrill. It’s not traditional television, but it is outright viewer’s choice entertainment. From lifestyle, fashion, and game shows to contests like singing and dance reality shows, they are quite fun to watch, and for great fans of dance like ourselves, we still haven’t gotten over some dancers and their incredible stunts and choreography.
Through the years, while some dance shows have been delightful and then left our screens years after, new ones still come to live up with the craze and give us the inspiration we need to keep going. The expertise, display of skill, passion, lights, fun, and popularity, what’s not to love about dance shows. These television dance shows have made stars and celebrities of many dancers without a doubt, and many dancers have picked their role models from these shows. Luckily, whether they are presently in production or not, the internet has tons of episodes you can catch up on. Enjoy! We are excited to share the four dance shows that inspire us greatly with you.
America’s Best Dance Crew
For a grand prize of $100 000 and a beautiful golden trophy, amazing dance crews from within and outside America come to compete on the stage of America’s Best Dance Crew. This competition focuses on modern and contemporary dance styles, and so competitors are allowed to freestyle and express their dance creativity and innovation. However, a theme is provided for each week’s performance from a celebrity artist or icon chosen for the week. One of the many reasons we love America’s Best Dance Crew, also known as ABDC, is its versatility. It’s more like a showdown between dance crews, which makes the performance and choreography more exciting. The battles are usually filled with some unexpected twists, and it reminds us of some of the most amazing dance movies like the Step Up series.
ABDC show first premiered on MTV in 2008, and after seven seasons, producers canceled the show in 2012 but came together for the 8th season in 2015.
Dance Moms
Dance Moms allows us to see the reality, struggle and show biz behind the life of children dancers and their rather unusual trainer, Abby Lee Miller. Of course, the show doesn’t sideline the moms who make sure their daughters are on top of their careers. In this light, Dance moms follow the relationship and drama between the trainer, the moms, and their children as they travel around the US to compete in dance competitions and the coaching from their trainer to make them world-class employable dancers. Their trainer Abby Lee Miller uses a rather different approach to build her girls, and this is almost 100% criticism. Dance Mom interests us for its uniqueness and its intentionality to making their girls skillful dancers.
Dance Moms launched in 2013 on Lifetime and has made stars like Jojo Siwa. However, the show was canceled last year after some controversy around the trainer, Abby.
The Greatest Dancer
Although this show only lasted for two series, it will forever live in our hearts (hopefully that didn’t sound too dramatic…lol). When £50,000 and worldwide popularity are up for grabs, it is easy to discover amazing talents at every performance. Created by one of our favorite TV personalities, Simon Cowell, known for his ingenuity, this dance competition gathers dancers. It puts them on a live weekly performance to display the most incredible routines while doing it solo.
With talented and experienced ‘Dance Captains’ who serve as judges on this show and mentors who guide the dance acts, there is always something new to uncover, so we can’t forget about TGD.
Dancing With The Stars
On Dancing With The Stars, celebrities couple up with professional dancers to compete for the beautiful ‘Mirrorball’ trophy and almost half of a million dollars, although it isn’t a fixed price. This show is great on television, and thankfully it is still in production, so you get to experience everything we say about it and more for yourself in the next episode. This show premiered in June 2005 on ABC.
It’s always interesting to see stars who aren’t normally great at dancing put in so much effort and, most times, successfully get the moves and stunts in ballroom, contemporary, and jazz dance. If you’re going to watch DWTS, it is currently in its 30th season, so get right to it as there’s plenty to catch up on. We believe that most of your favorite stars have appeared on this show.
Conclusion
Many more popular dance shows on television hold a lot of excitement and show good skills like UK’s Strictly Come Dancing or the girls dance show Bring It. These shows also hold a lot of inspiration for dance fans or dancers themselves, so feel free to put your dancing shoes on and move to the beat as you catch up on all these series.
